Indian Church Government School -BELIZE

• Approximately 75 children attend

• Infant 1 and 2, and Standard 1 (ages 5 – 7)

• Standard 2, 3, and 4 (ages 8 – 10)

• Standard 5 and 6 (ages 11 – 13)

• Public school - but books and uniforms MUST BE PURCHASED

• Many students do not go on after age 13 due to the high expense (see below)

Please see the link for our scholarship program that helps students go to school beyond age 13!

Children in Belize are required to attend school until they complete Standard 6, which is generally equivalent to Grade 6 in the U.S. The school in Indian Church Village only goes to Standard 6 and as a result many children in this rural community with no electricity do not further their education.

Currently the bus only comes to Indian Church Village three days a week so it is not possible for children to ride a bus and only a few families own cars. Children who decide to go on must have the resources for room and board as well as school expenses. The wages in Belize make it extremely difficult for a family to be able to send their children to a U.S. equivalent middle school or high school.
